Satirist Andy Borowitz wrote in July 2020 that President Donald Trump had announced in July 2020 that he had replaced Anthony Fauci with former television game show Chuck Woolery as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Trump, according to Borowitz, said that he chose Woolery because he has “a much better record of success than Tony.”

Borowitz wrote this in his satirical column for The New Yorker.
Satire uses irony, exaggeration, and humor to expose cruelty, vices, follies, and stupidity to ridicule. This differs from misinformation and disinformation that uses manipulation, distortion, and lying for the purpose of advancing a political ideology.
Here is a simple way of explaining the difference:
Satire is used to ridicule the Trump Administration.
Misinformation and disinformation are used to promote the Trump Administration.
There was a “love connection,” if you will, between Trump and Woolery, the Pete Best of game shows, who hosted “Wheel of Fortune” and Love Connection.”
Woolery was the first host of Wheel of Fortune. He hosted the program from 1975-1981 and was then dropped after demanding that his salary be doubled.
Shrewd.
Pat Sajek succeeded Woolery as the game show’s host in 1981. He has hosted the program for the last 42 years and holds the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest career as a host for the same show.
What has Woolery been doing since 1981?
In 2020, he served as an unpaid advisor to President Trump on the coronavirus pandemic.
Woolery tweeted in July 2020 that the Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was lying about the coronavirus pandemic as part of vast conspiracy to defeat President Donald Trump in his bid for re-election.
“The most outrageous lies are the ones about Covid 19. Everyone is lying. The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust,” Woolery said. ”I think it’s all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I’m sick of it.”
Trump then reweeted Woolery because – as everyone knows, Chuck Woolery knows more about immunology than almost anyone else.
CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge asked Trump why he retweeted Woolery.
“You reposted a tweet yesterday saying that CDC and health officials are lying. You understand this is confusing for the public. So who do they believe? You, or the medical professionals like Dr. Fauci?” Herridge asked.
“I didn’t make a comment,” Trump responded. “I reposted a tweet that a lot of people feel. But all I am doing is making a comment. I’m just putting somebody’s voice out there. There are many voices. There are many people that think we shouldn’t do this kind of testing, because all we do, it’s a trap.”
Yes, Anthony Fauci and the CDC were tricking people so they could stay alive.
Damn those go-doers!
The Hill reported that Woolery announced a few days after accusing medical professionals and Democrats of lying about the coronavirus that his son had tested positive for the virus.
“To further clarify and add perspective,” Woolery tweeted. “Covid-19 is real and it is here. My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones.”
Woolery then deactivated his Twitter account.
You can learn a lot about somebody from whom they turn for advice and confirmation in times of crisis.
Here is a brief – though revealing list – of who Trump retweets:
Chuck Woolery
Randy Quaid
Curt Schilling
Madison Cawthorn
Terrence Williams
