ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE: JEFFREY CLARK

A federal judge during a hearing in September 2023 expressed significant issues with disgraced former Trump Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark’s motion to move his Georgia election trial to federal court.

Clark and former Trump chief of staff and presidential toady Mark Meadows claim their case should be heard in federal court because they were acting on behalf of Trump.

Clark, Meadows, and former President Donald Trump are among 19 defendants charged in the attempt to overthrow the results in Georgia during the 2020 Presidential Election.

U.S District Judge Steve Jones appeared frustrated and annoyed at the request of Clark, who was not present, to have his sworn statement admitted as testimony.

A sworn statement by Trump or anyone involved in the Georgia conspiracy case has the legal currency of Confederate money.

Jones’ sharp questions directed at Clark’s attorneys led Trump attorney Steve Sadow, who was in the courtroom, to whisper, “This is not good.”

This is not the first time “this is not good” has been uttered by a Trump attorney in a courtroom.

It won’t be the last.

The case stems from Clark’s efforts to use his senior role at the Justice Department to help Trump overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election — over the objections of Clark’s superiors in the department.

Clark’s former superiors in the Justice Department testified during Congressional hearings that they thought Clark was, in the words of one observer, “an incompetent idiot.”

In Clark’s defense, he appeared to a very competent idiot and a willing stooge in Trump’s illegal conspiracy to overthrow the election results.

Trump wanted to appoint Clark to become attorney general so Clark would put the con ahead of the Constitution.

When acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donahue protested to the president, Trump told Rosen:

“Well, one thing we know is you, Rosen, you aren’t going to do anything. You don’t even agree with the claims of election fraud, and this other guy at least might do something.”

Rosen said: ‘Well, Mr. President, you’re right that I’m not going to allow the Justice Department to do anything to try to overturn the election. That’s true,” Rosen recalled. “But the reason for that is because that’s what’s consistent with the facts and the law, and that’s what’s required under the Constitution.”

Rosen and Donahue then threatened to resign if Clark was promoted. They said there would be mass resignations within the Justice Department.

Donoghue said Clark would be “left leading a graveyard.”

Trump’s senior staff then convinced Trump not to promote Clark . . . and Trump sought other options to illegally overturn the election.
