Former Trump campaign official Rick Gates was sentenced in federal court in December 2019 to 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to lying and conspiracy as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 Presidential Election.
Gates, an associate of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, testified that he assisted Manafort in hiding $75 million in foreign bank accounts from years of lobbying for the Ukrainian government.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson gave Gates, whose testimony was corroborated by other witnesses, a reduced sentence for cooperating with the Mueller investigation. Gates then testified as a government witness in the trials against Manafort and Trump adviser Roger Stone.
