President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden could only invite a relative few people to their second debate in Nashville, Tennessee, during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Biden invited a North Carolina couple who had struggled to keep their restaurant open during the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump could have invited someone who once did something admirable or perhaps did something nice to someone.
But he didn’t know anyone like that and no one he knew did either.
Trump could have ingratiated himself to evangelical Christians, his most loyal supporters, by inviting a popular minister?
Instead, he turned to his next most loyal group: has-been, never-were, and morally and ethically questionable lowlife entertainers and athletes.
He invited John Daly and Kid Rock.
Daly, a professional golfer who is far less known for golf than he is for getting drunk, losing his temper, going to alcohol rehab, drinking again, and being suspended by the professional golf association for violating tournament rules. He was charged with abusing one of his four wives but she didn’t press charges and he pled guilty to harassment.
Daly became friends and golfing buddies with Donald Trump.
Daly, who has had worse lies and spent more time in the drink than perhaps any golfer, compared himself and Trump to Jesus when was asked who would win the 20202 election.
“Trump wins,” Daly said, “cause he’s like me and Jesus, we love everyone.’’
