Valentin Broeksmit, who worked as a whistleblower for the FBI in its investigation of real estate developer Donald Trump’s relationship with Deutsche Bank, committed suicide in May 2022.
Broeksmit’s father, William, a former banker with Deutsche Bank who made questionable loans to Trump, committed suicide in 2014.
“Val Broeksmit, a wayward whistle-blower who wielded his dead stepfather’s passwords to reveal Deutsche Bank’s role in money laundering and other dealings with Russia and the Trump Organization,” an obituary in the New York Times reported.
Val Broeksmit reportedly had a trove of bank documents from his father and contacted the FBI after his father’s suicide.
Deutsche Bank, The Hill newspaper reported, was facing scrutiny over its working relationship with President Trump and his family.
The House Intelligence and Financial Services committees subpoenaed Deutsche Bank records relating to Trump.
The New York Times, The Hill reported, said that Val Broeksmit told the FBI that Deutsche Bank had a culture of “fraud and dirt.”
“I am more emotionally invested in this than anyone in the world,” Broeksmit told The Times.
Broeksmit’s body was found on the courtyard of a Los Angeles schoolyard.
No sign of foul play was found.
Scott Stedman, a journalist working for Forensic News, who frequently wrote about Deutsche Bank, tweeted that Bill Broeksmit’s suicide had “consumed” the younger Broeksmit.
Stedman also said he didn’t believe there was any foul play around Val’s death. Val Broeksmit had long suffered with drug addiction, Stedman said.
