The House Freedom Caucus was created by Ohio congressman Jim Jordan and includes the most extreme – and incompetent, intolerant, ignorant, and treacherous – members of Congress.
Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, one of the founding members, said when they met for the first time, they “decided we were a group, and not just a bunch of pissed-off guys”.

And so they became a caucus of “pissed off guys.” It has since expanded to “pissed off” women.
The Christian Science Monitor calls it “The Fight Club” of Congress.

The group lacks a website or any ideas – at least productive ones.
The group revolted against GOP House Speaker John Boehner, leading to his ouster.
The House Freedom Caucus has been revolting ever since – in so many ways.
In a 2017 interview with Boehner in Vanity Fair, he said of the Freedom Caucus: “They can’t tell you what they’re for. They can tell you everything they’re against. They’re anarchists. They want total chaos. Tear it all down and start over. That’s where their mindset is.” https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/10/john-boehner-on-republican-party
Boehner’s description of the group as “anarchists” is appropriate. Its members perpetuated President Trump’s lies that the 2020 President Election was stolen and incited the insurrection on January 6, 2021.
See Scott Perry, the caucuses’ current chair.
It has since revolted against House speaker Kevin McCarthy, leading to his ouster in 2023.
The House Freedom Caucus represents a minority of GOP congressional members but an oversized amount of power and psychotic behavior.
It’s not a legislative caucus, it is a legislative carcass.
Its members have passed little legislation to address the country’s problems.
John Boehner was right. And how often have you ever heard someone say that.
