ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE: ANDREW PUZDER

President-Elect Donald Trump nominated Andrew Puzder, the CEO of the restaurant chain, CKE, to be secretary of the Department of Labor.

CKE is the parent company of the fast-food restaurants Carl’s Jr. and Hardees.

Who better to represent the interests of labor in the United States than the CEO of an industry rife with exploiting and abusing workers, paying low wages, exposing workers to a dangerous workplace, and violating child labor laws?

The only thing worse than putting Puzder in charge of the Department of Labor would have been putting him in charge of the Food and Drug Administration.

The most nutritious thing in a bag with a Carl Jr. bacon burger combo is the bag.

Trump’s choice of Puzder as labor secretary drew immediate criticism because of his opposition to laborers.

Puzder withdrew his nomination a month after he was nominated after Senate Republicans told the president they did not have the votes to confirm him. White House press secretary Sean Spicer blamed Democrats for sinking Puzder’s nomination.

Spicer was wrong.

Again.

Again.

Puzder would have won nomination if all Republicans had voted for him.

But he didn’t have support of all Republicans.

Conservative publications, including the National Review and Breitbart, criticized the nomination after Puzder admitted that he did not pay taxes for several years on the wages of an undocumented immigrant who worked for him.

In addition, Politico published a video of Puzder’s ex-wife charging him with physical abuse during an appearance she made on the Oprah television program.

She later recanted those accusations.

Then there were the criticisms of Puzder for his opposition to increase the minimum wage and for the labor violations at his restaurants.

A spokesman with organized labor characterized the choice of Puzder to run the Department of Labor as “cruel and baffling.”
