Jim Pillen, a hog producer and University of Nebraska regent, won the Republican primary for governor of Nebraska in 2022, defeating, among others, agribusiness executive Charles Herbster.

Herbster, who had been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, had been accused of groping or forcibly kissing eight women, the Nebraska Examiner reported.
Pete Ricketts, the current Nebraska governor, said that Herbster should drop out of the race, saying “sexual assault is criminal behavior and should disqualify anyone from elected leadership.”
A bipartisan group of state senators put out a statement also calling the candidate’s behavior “disqualifying.”

Trump did not drop his endorsement of Herbster.
Trump traveled to Nebraska to campaign for him.
Trump defended Herbster against the allegations of groping. Herbster is “the last person to do any of this stuff,” Trump said.
“What did they say he’s done?” Trump asked. “Did he talk to someone?”
Trump said that Herbster is “innocent of these despicable charges.”
Who better to defend an accused groper than Trump, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 18 women.
