Clay Higgins represents the third congressional district of Louisiana.
He’s a member in good standing of the House Freedom Carcass – sorry, Freedom Caucus.
It will be pretty obvious that he’s a member of the group in a few paragraphs.
David DePape, drugged up on conspiracy theories, went to the California home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in October 2022 to confront her about his conspiracy theories. Speaker Pelosi was in Washington D.C. Paul Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi’s husband, was sleeping in the house.
When police officers arrived, they witnessed DePape strike the unarmed 83-year-old Paul Pelosi with a hammer, fracturing his skull and leaving a bloody crime scene.

The attack was a brutal affront to our democracy, regardless of whether the victim was a Democrat, Republican, or Independent.
How did Clay Higgins and other Republicans respond?
Time magazine reported that former President Trump referred to a bogus conspiracy that was promoted by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, right-wing commentator Dinesh D’Souza, Higgins, and other right-wingers that suggested without evidence that Paul Pelosi’s attacker was a male prostitute.

Higgins, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, tweeted without evidence — or without using the frontal cortex of his brain — that the perpetrator was a “male nudist hippie prostitute.”

He posted a photo of Nancy Pelosi covering her eyes and included the following tweet:
“The moment you realize the nudist happy male prostitute LSD guy was the reason your husband didn’t make it to your fundraiser.”

Higgins does not appear to have a functioning frontal cortex. In addition, the limbic section of the brain appears to need a checkup.
His response to things he doesn’t like is to threaten violence.
In this he appears to resemble the character Francis from the movie Stripes who insists on being called Psycho.
Here is Francis’ dialogue from Stripes.
“The name’s Francis Soyer, but everybody calls me Psycho. Any of you guys call me Francis, and I’ll kill you.”
Leon: “Ooooooh.”
Psycho: “You just made the list, buddy. And I don’t like nobody touching my stuff. So just keep your meat-hooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I’ll kill you. Also, I don’t like nobody touching me. Now, any of you homos touch me, and I’ll kill you.”
Sergeant Hulka: “Lighten up, Francis.”
Higgins, drawing on his inner Francis, threatened in a Facebook post that he would shoot armed Black Lives Matter protestors who came to his state.
“Have your affairs in order. Me? . . . . I wouldn’t even spill my beer. I’d drop any 10 of you where you stand,” Higgins tweeted.

When Facebook removed that post, he posted this:
“America is being manipulated into a new era of government control” and “I’ll advise you when it’s time to gear up, mount up and roll out.”
Facebook removed this post.
When Higgins became a congressman, he took an oath to obey U.S. laws.
(Higgins says he was crossing his fingers when he took the oath so it doesn’t count.)
In addition, Higgins said that anyone suspected of being an Islamic radical – that is, suspected of being an Islamic radical – should be “killed”:
“Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down. Hunt them, identity them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all,” he said.

Before becoming a member of Congress, Higgins worked as a law enforcement officer in Louisiana and was disciplined for – and this will shock you – using unwarranted force.
The police chief in the Opelousas City police department wrote the city council about Higgins’ impending disciplinary action: “Clay Higgins used unnecessary force on a subject during the execution of a warrant and later gave false statements during an internal investigation. . . . although he later recanted his story and admitted to striking a suspect in handcuffs.”

Higgins resigned before disciplinary action could be imposed.
He then worked as a captain and public information officer for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. He was told to soften the language he used in the videos he made for the parish’s Crime Stoppers program.

Higgins, among other things, called Black suspects “animals.”
He also referred to other suspected criminals as “thugs,” “heathens,” and “animals.”
“We have felony warrants for your arrest,” Higgins said, sternly addressed the camera while holding a semi-automatic assault rifle. “You will be hunted. You will be trapped. And if you raise your weapon to a man like me, we’ll return fire with superior fire.”
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff told Higgins to lighten up or resign.
“My orders to Higgins was to, ‘tone down’ his unprofessional comments on our weekly Crime Stoppers messages,” the sheriff was quoted in a Washington Post article. “He disagreed with my orders.”
Higgins resigned in 2016.
Higgins was then elected to Congress later that year in the election that put Donald Trump in the White House.
Higgins became a vocal skeptic of the coronavirus vaccine and blamed the pandemic without evidence on the Chinese who had created the disease as “biological warfare.” He claimed without evidence that face masks were a “bacteria trap.” He introduced legislation to make vaccine mandates a federal crime.
In July 2021, he announced that he and his wife in his fourth marriage had contracted COVID-19.

Four marriages.
He’s pro family.
Higgins, who has been endorsed by Donald Trump, responded to federal charges filed against Trump by independent counsel Jack Smith who is investigating Trump’s involvement in the campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Higgins issued the following threat against Smith:
“His days are numbered,” Higgins said.

Lighten up, Higgins.
