Elliott Broidy, a venture capitalist and lobbyist, pled guilty in late 2009 to bribing New York State officials with $1 million worth of illegal gifts.
The Reuters News Service reported that Broidy faced up to four years in prison for a felony count of “rewarding official misconduct.” A judge, however, permitted Broidy to plead guilty to attempting to reward official conduct, a misdemeanor.
Broidy was given no jail time because he cooperated with prosecutors and his testimony became “the final nail in the coffin on those who tried to rip off the system,” the judge said.

This allowed Broidy to seamlessly return to GOP fundraising and resume bribing public officials for a lot more money.
Broidy became a fundraiser for Donald Trump during the presidential election of 2016, deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee, and vice chair of Donald Trump’s Inaugural Committee.
After Trump was elected, he named Jeff Sessions as his attorney general, who began shaping the Justice Department in his image. Sessions, being the smarmy weasel than he is, naturally turned for advice to Broidy – who had pled guilty to bribing public officials, reported ProPublica, an independent, non-profit organization committed to investigative journalism.
Broidy resigned as deputy finance chair of the RNC chair after the Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen had negotiated that $1.6 million be paid to a former Playboy model in exchange for her silence about her extramarital affair with Brodie. The model said Brodie had impregnated her.
That’s correct, $1.6 million.
Mr. Broidy acknowledged the affair, apologizing to his wife and family. He said that his mistress made the decision to abort to fetus. “She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy, and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period,” he said.
What a guy!
Broidy’s involvement with the Trump campaign played out how one would expect it to play out.
In October 2020, Broidy pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate foreign lobbying laws as part of a campaign to influence the administration on behalf of Chinese and Malaysian interests, the New York Times reported.

Nader, an informal adviser to President Donald Trump, pled guilty in January 2020 to charges of bringing an underaged boy to the United States for sex and for possession of child pornography that included sexual abuse of toddlers. He was sentenced to ten years in prison. Prosecutors characterized him a lifelong pedophile.

As part of his guilty plea, Broidy “agreed to forfeit $6.6 million to the federal government and to cooperate with law enforcement on a number of other investigations,” the New York Times reported.
President Trump pardoned Broidy in 2021.
