ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE: JOE DIGENOVA

Joe DiGenova, a former federal prosecutor with a long history of working for Republican politicians, came to Donald Trump’s attention by appearing on Fox News and other right-wing media outlets claiming that special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian election interference was a conspiracy by the FBI to frame Trump and end his presidency.

DiGenova compensated for his lack of evidence and facts by ranting nonsensically in what appeared to be an audition to host his own program for Fox News.

Trump continued to rant that he had lost the 2020 Presidential Election because of widespread fraud even though he couldn’t identify any credible cases of fraud and even though dozens of judges ruled against his fraudulent claims of widespread fraud.

In November 2020, Trump named DiGenova, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis to work with Rudy Giuliani to overturn the results of the presidential election.

Oh, to be in the same room with DiGenova, Powell, Ellis, and Giuliani.

Think of the mental energy with all those brain cylinders clicking.

One could brown a piece of toast.

Trump fired Christopher Krebs, who served as director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, after saying that the election had been “the most secure in history.”

Krebs then appeared on the CBS news magazine, 60 Minutes, to reaffirm his statement about the security of the election and insist that Trump’s claims of widespread cheating were baseless.

DiGenova, appearing on Newsmax, said that Krebs should be “shot” for contradicting the president’s conspiracy theories. “Anybody who thinks the election went well, like that idiot Krebs who used to be the head of cybersecurity,” DiGenova said, “that guy is a class A moron. He should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot.”

DiGenova’s comments prompted a strong rebuke from, well, everyone with either a brain or a conscious.

Matt Travis, who was Krebs’ former deputy, called DiGenova “a small man with a small mind and bad mustache . . . It’s egregious. (I’m) at a loss of words for just how absurd and offensive those comments are,” Travis said. “We certainly never expected CISA, its mission, its people, to be under attack like this and I hope it ends soon. I hope Mr. DiGenova takes back those words, apologizes and recognizes that maybe the hot lights of the studio got to him.”

Krebs filed a civil lawsuit against DiGenova, the Trump campaign, and Newsmax, accusing them of “defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, aiding and abetting, and civil conspiracy.” He reported he received “a barrage of threats and harassment” as a result of DiGenova’s comments and “faces a genuine risk of imminent harm.”

DiGenova later apologized to Krebs.
