Lauren Boebert, a Republican congresswoman from Colorado and her date for the evening went to a performance of Beetlejuice: The Musical at a Denver theater in September 2023 and began annoying other theatergoers with their loud talking.
In addition, they were “vaping, singing, recording and ‘causing a disturbance’ during the performance,” the Denver Post reported.
In Boebert’s defense, you can hardly expect someone to have a fundamental understanding of basic protocol for attending a theater when she spends most of her time living in a sewer or hanging out with the House Freedom Caucus. But I repeat myself.
Boebert and her date were told at intermission that there had been complaints about their behavior and if it was repeated, they would be asked to leave. Within minutes after the show resumed, the theater staff received another complaint that Boebert and her associate were recording the musical in violation of theater rules.
The police report quotes one of the ushers as saying, “They told me they would not leave. I told them that they need to leave the theater and if they do not, they will be trespassing. The patrons said they would not leave.”
The usher then called the Denver Police.
Police arrived and the Boebert party left without further incident.

No one was surprised by the incident: Boebert has acted the same – or worse — in Congress since she was first elected in 2020.
Congress is often characterized by its dysfunction.
Boebert is one of the faces of that dysfunction.
This dysfunction depends on an active group of dysfunctional people who lack a fundamental understanding of the basic protocol for functioning as legislators. They do not function as legislators because they have no understanding of what it means to be a legislator.
They are not legislators. They are nihilists.
They are the House Freedom Carcass . . . the House Freedom Caucus.
Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene are their high priestesses.
We’ll get to the two of them and their dysfunctional relationship in a minute.
But first a little about Boebert.
Boebert is a high school dropout.
This by itself means little. I know a number of people who dropped out of high school, ended up receiving their GEDs, either went on to college or didn’t, and went on to live good lives because they understood the quality of an education, which, among other things, helps to teach critical thinking skills where one can distinguish between knowledge and ignorance.
Boebert believes what she wants to believe, regardless of whether it has any basis in fact or reality.
She believes – without evidence – that Donald Trump won the 2020 President Election.
She is a card-carrying member of QAnon conspiracy theories such as there’s a Deep State plot against Trump that includes child sex traffickers and satanism.
“Everything that I’ve heard of Q, I hope that this is real because it only means that America is getting stronger and better,” Boebert said, “and people are returning to conservative values.”

Who needs another Ronald Reagan, who espoused those dated conservative values like low taxes, small government, and a strong military when there are imaginary child sex traffickers and satanists to deal with?
If Reagan had gone after satanists and child sex traffickers in the Democratic Party, we wouldn’t have this mess on our hands today, I’ll tell you that.
Not all Republicans are sold on the Boebert and House Freedom Caucus style of politics.
“The more times you have candidates who are crazy, the more it hurts your brand,” said John Feehery, a GOP consultant. “The trick is for Republicans to embrace the anti-establishment mood without embracing the crazy.”

This is a bit like putting lip stick on the lips of a rabid dog without running the risk of getting rabies.
The immediate concern of the GOP should be to housebreak the House Freedom Caucus or, short of that, introduce them to the U.S. Constitution.
Boebert, for instance, told an audience she was tired of this “separation of church and state junk.”
Yes, who needs that stinking U.S. Constitution to make America great again?
Boebert received her GED, her high school equivalency degree, a few months before she was elected to Congress.

Boebert does have a point when she says we should be more interested in a politician’s life experiences than their education.
Boebert grew up on welfare.
But as a congresswoman, she rages against welfare while serving constituents who live in counties that have among the state’s highest number of welfare and unemployment recipients. One of the counties she represents received more Paycheck Protection Program money than any other county in the state.
“We’re here to tell the government: ‘we don’t want your benefits, we don’t want your welfare’,” she said in a speech at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference.
Speak for yourself.
Boebert’s biography mentions that she came to the attention of voters as the owner of Shooter’s Grill near Glenwood Spring, Colorado, where staff openly carried firearms.

Boebert often repeats her origin story about how and why she got into politics.
“Shortly after we opened our restaurant, there was an altercation where a man was beat to death … outside of my restaurant, beat to death by another man. No weapons. And I immediately wondered, how am I going to protect everyone?”
The Washington Post fact checked this story and, upon further review, found few facts related to Boebert’s account.
According to police reports, a man had died after a fight with another man, but the cause of death was “methamphetamine intoxication,” a drug overdose. There was no homicide.
Boebert failed to disclose a number of potential conflict of interests; for example, that her husband Jayson had a highly paid job in the natural gas industry while she served on the House Natural Resources Committee.
Jayson Boebert was arrested in 2004 for exposing himself to two young women at a bowling alley and was sentenced to four days in jail.
He told the women he had a tattoo on his penis.

Really.
The tattoo said, “I’m with stupid.”
Jayson Boebert was arrested and sentenced to a few days in jail.
He also was later charged with assaulting his wife, Salon reported.
Boebert, as a congresswoman, voted against the Violence Against Women Act.
The New York Post reported that Lauren Boebert avenged her husband’s assault by scratching his face and chest, according to a police report. Lauren was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and underage drinking.

Boebert proclaims her respect for law enforcement and praises police officers. She’s a supporter of #BacktheBlue.

Until of course the police need her to have their back.
Boebert was one of 21 congressional members – most of whom members of the House Freedom Caucus — who voted against giving gold medals to all police officers who responded to the rioters on January 6.
A gold medal is the highest honor Congress can give to a person or institution.
Boebert called it “shameful” that House Democrats were using the deaths of police officers to “score cheap political points.”
Most of those who voted “no,” including Boebert, were among the same members of Congress who voted “no” to certify the 2020 Presidential Election in the hours after insurrections violently attacked the U.S. Capitol to overturn the election, injuring scores of police officers.
Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, told CNN that the 21 “no” votes were “a new low for this crowd.”
“They voted to overturn an election. But in their vote today, they kind of sealed the deal of basically affiliating with the mob,” Connolly said.
Boebert has repeatedly clashed with Capitol Police for enforcing laws that require that everyone who enters the Capitol go through metal detectors.
“I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C.,” she tweeted.
She called her detractors “another political stunt by Speaker Pelosi.”
In 2015, a Colorado news organization reported that police handcuffed her at a country music festival near Grand Junction, Colorado., after police said she attempted to interfere in the arrest of minors who were arrested for underage drinking and then encouraged the minors to run away.
She reportedly told police that she “had friends at Fox News.”

Boebert has called for the impeachment of President Joe Biden regardless of whether Biden has committed an impeachable offense or committed any crime.
This led to a spat between Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, a congresswoman from Georgia, who criticized Boebert for copying her impeachment resolution.
“I had already introduced articles of impeachment on Joe Biden for the border, asked her to co-sponsor mine — she didn’t,” Green told reporters.
The video of exchange on the House floor was caught on C-SPAN cameras.
According to witnesses, Boebert confronted Greene about her criticism.
Greene angrily responded.
“I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little bitch to me,” Greene (R-Ga.) reportedly told Boebert (R-Colo.). “And you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to cosponsor them.”
After Greene cursed her colleague out, Boebert shrugging her shoulders and snapped, “OK, Marjorie, we’re through.”
“We were never together,” Greene reportedly shot back.

Asked about Greene’s claims that she copied her resolution, Boebert said: “I’m not in middle school.”

In the words of the late Pee Wee Herman, “I know you are, but what am I?”
Democratic adviser Jon Cooper responded on Twitter:
“Any day that Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Lauren Boebert a ‘little bitch’ to her face on the House floor is a good day.
