Comedian Roseanne Barr became famous for her TV series, Roseanne, which she leveraged into singing – or strangling — the National Anthem at a nationally televised major league baseball game. When she finished, she grabbed her groin and spat.
Roseanne Barr and Donald Trump have long expressed mutual fondness for one another.
They have a lot in common.
One is an offensive comedian. The other is an offensive joke.
Barr, who is Jewish, endeared herself to other Jews by posing for a satirical magazine as Adolf Hitler. She wore a Hitler moustache, a swastika arm-band, and held burnt gingerbread man cookies referred to as “burnt Jew cookies.”
Barr claimed that liberal billionaire George Soros, a Hungarian Jew, helped Nazis round up Jews to send them to concentration camps. This wasn’t true.
“By the way, George Soros a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that?”
Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, retweeted Barr’s tweet.
Soros, according to a spokesman, was 14 at the end of World War II and his family survived as Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary by pretending to be Christians.
In March 2018, Roseanne returned to prime-time television for a reboot of “Roseanne.”
Trump praised the reboot.
Two months after the program aired, ABC canceled it after Barr responded to a photo on Twitter about Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to former President Obama, by saying, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj” (sic).
The New York Times reported that Donald Trump criticized Robert A. Iger, the chairman of Disney, the parent company of ABC, who apologized to Valerie Jarrett for Ms. Barr’s language. Trump tweeted that Iger owed him an apology for HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC.”
ABC eventually brought Roseanne back without Roseanne. On June 20, 2020, Barr tweeted that Trump “is the first woman President of the United States.”
Now that’s funny.
