Steve Bannon, or “Sloppy Steve” as he’s called by Donald Trump, looks like he hasn’t slept in a week, but, in Bannon’s defense, it’s hard for a 280-pound man to sleep upside down hanging from the top of a cave.
Bannon is a human nightmare, a slithering, talking, hate-spewing evil spirit that haunts us whether we are awake or asleep, a monstrous character whose pure odiousness makes Donald Trump a worse person.
Steve Bannon makes Donald Trump a worse person.
Let this be Bannon’s epitaph.
“Steve Bannon was the driving force behind the right-wing Breitbart News website, and later became Donald Trump’s chief strategist in the early stages of his presidency,” the BBC reported in October 2022.
“During the 2016 presidential campaign and in the White House, Mr. Bannon had a direct line to Mr. Trump – who seemed to be his ideological soulmate. But that came to an end when he left his post in August 2017 as their relationship began to cool.”
Trump resented the fact that Bannon often took credit for Trump’s presidential victory, suspected Bannon of making Trump look bad by leaking criticism to the news media, calling Ivanka Trump “as dumb as a brick” and criticizing a meeting among the president’s sons, Don Jr. and Eric, with Russians as “treasonous.”
“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Mr. Trump said in a statement after the publication of Bannon’s book.

Trump is perfectly capable of making himself look bad without anyone’s help – he does it every time he opens his mouth. Secondly, Ivanka is as dumb as a brick — perhaps dumber — and the Trump sons are traitors. Thirdly, if Bannon had had a mind he never would have worked for Trump.
Fourthly, Bannon reeks of self-aggrandizement. But maybe what Bannon reeks of is not self-aggrandizement.
No one in Trump World is more full of shit and urine — except Trump.
Trump and Bannon – like that of any pathological bromance – can never be separated from each other because as awful as they are by themselves, they’re worse when they’re together.
There is Trump. There is Bannon. There is Trump and Bannon.
Both Trump and Bannon are pathological liars who traffic in disinformation. Both are con artists. Both are white supremacists. Both endorsed Roy Moore, a disgraced former Alabama chief justice who was widely accused of being a pedophile, for a Senate seat in Alabama. Moore lost the election.
Bannon was charged in August 2020 with scamming thousands of donors who thought they were donating their hard-earned money to fulfill Trump’s promise to build a wall to stop the flow of migrants across the U.S.’s Southern border. Prosecutors said that Bannon diverted more than a million dollars for himself.
Wouldn’t Trump by outraged by such fraud?
Trump wished he had thought of it himself.
Trump pardoned Bannon in the waning hours of his presidency.
Critics pounced on the Bannon pardon.
“Steve Bannon is getting a pardon from Trump after defrauding Trump’s own supporters into paying for a wall that Trump promised Mexico would pay for,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said. “And if that all sounds crazy, that’s because it is. Thank God we have only 12 more hours of this den of thieves.”

Bannon, being Bannon, continued to break the law but once Trump left the White House, he had the misfortune to have Joe Biden – and not Donald Trump – in the White House, someone who actually took seriously his oath to “faithfully execute” the laws of the land.
What a lousy break.
There would be no pardons.
Bannon was sentenced in July 2022 to four months in prison for contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena to testify by the House Committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2001, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Bannon immediately said he was appealing the sentence.
The judge denied Bannon’s appeal, saying there was nothing appealing about Bannon.

Bannon continues to be the voice of Trumpism on his fact-free “War Room” podcast. In a study released by the Brookings Institute in February 2023, the podcast was recognized as “the top peddler of false, misleading and unsubstantiated statements among political podcasts.”
The New York Times reported that researchers at Brookings downloaded and transcribed 36,603 podcast episodes from nearly 80 political talk shows released before Jan. 22, 2022. Researchers found “War Room” episodes contained more “false, misleading or unsubstantiated statement(s)” than any other podcast, The Times reported.
