ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE: LIL’ WAYNE

Rapper Lil’ Wayne, also known as Dwayne Michael Carter, pled guilty in December 2020 for possessing a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

His sentencing date was scheduled for January 28, 2021.

He had previously been convicted of a gun charge and sentenced to a year in prison.

In fact, the rapper’s rap sheet was so long it would have qualified him as a rapper even if he had never recorded a song.

Lil Wayne appeared with President Trump and endorsed him during the 2020 presidential campaign. His attorney Howard Srebnick said he was unaware “of any attempt by the White House to intervene” on the rapper’s behalf after his arrest.

Trump pardoned Lil’ Wayne in January — right before the president left office and right before the rapper was to be sentenced.

Bradford Cohen, another attorney who appeared on the Trump television program, The Apprentice, said that the pardon was not in exchange for the singer’s endorsement of the president.

“President Trump and his administration have been tireless advocates on behalf of the African-American community,” Cohen said.
