ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE: TED CRUZ

Will Rogers, the early 20th-century political humorist, once said, “I never met a man I didn’t like.”

Rogers never met U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

If Rogers had, he would have kicked Cruz in the groin and when Cruz bent over, he would have kicked him in the teeth, and then thrown him down a flight of stairs.

And everyone seeing it would have cheered.

Rogers might have been given a medal and carried through the streets by a grateful nation.

But then again, Ted Cruz is not a man.

When Donald Trump and Cruz ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, Trump mocked Cruz’s wife’s looks, accused his father of being involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and called him “Lying Ted.”

How did Cruz respond?

He endorsed Trump.

Cruz is the anti-Will Rogers.

No one who has ever met him likes him.

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham once said, “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.”

Former U.S. Senator Al Franken famously said of Cruz: “I like Cruz more than most of my colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.”

Franken, of course, is a Democrat. But Cruz, if possible, is hated as much or more by his GOP colleagues.

Former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner once referred to Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh . . .

“I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”

New York Republican Rep. Pete King of New York called Boehner’s reference to Cruz an unfair comparison to Lucifer.

Maybe that’s what draws Cruz to another “miserable son of a bitch,” Trump

Cruz staunchly defended Trump during his two impeachment trials. Cruz, ignoring facts, logic, and court decisions, perpetuated and defended Trump’s bogus accusations that the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen. Cruz vowed to reject the certification of the election without evidence and then did so – even after a Trump-incited mob violently attacked the Capitol.

The conservative magazine the National Review said, “Cruz is even more culpable since he assuredly knew better.” The Houston Chronicle called for Cruz to resign in an editorial: “We reserve special condemnation for the perpetrators among them who are of sound mind and considerable intellect — those who should damn well know better.”

Washington Post columnist Ana Marie Cox wrote this about Cruz:

“In the end, perhaps the tragedy of Ted Cruz has nothing to do with how smart he is. He’s not ‘too smart for his own good,’ he’s just not a good person.”
