William Broeksmit, another Deutsche Bank executive with links to real estate developer President Trump and Russia, committed suicide in 2014.
In his 2020 book, Dark Towers: Deutsche Bank, Donald Trump, and an Epic Trail of Destruction, David Enrich, the finance editor of the New York Times chronicled how the scandal-plagued Deutsche Bank was involved in, as a Times book reviewer explained, “interest rate manipulation, Russian money laundering, currency dealings with rogue states, the collapse of Italy’s (and the world’s) oldest bank, hidden derivative losses, a high-level suicide” – and questionable loans with Donald Trump.
There were actually multiple suicides involving Deutsche Bank executives.

The bank made a loan to Trump, who refused to pay it but then asked for another, bigger loan.
Deutsche Bank became so captivated by Trump’s celebrity fame that it lent the real estate developer $48 million to cancel a debt he had defaulted on with another part of the bank
According to Dark Towers, one of the bank’s general counsels asked: “What the hell are we doing lending money to a guy like this?”
Enrich told the story of William Broeksmit to illustrate the consequences of the Deutsche Bank-Trump relationship.
Reuters identified Broeksmit as a principal founder of Deutsche’s investment bank and the bank’s head of risk and capital optimization.

Broeksmit, Enrich said, got caught in the failing of the bank, drank too much, suffered periods of increasing darkness, and then committed suicide in January 2014.
Broeksmit, who had retired from Deutsche, learned he was part of an investigation of Deutsche Bank and felt “very anxious.” Deutsche released a statement that said Broeksmit was “not under suspicion of wrongdoing in any matter.”
There was no indication or evidence that anyone contributed to Broeksmit’s death.

Trump’s relationship with Deutsche Bank became part of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation into fraud committed by the Trump organization.
